"OMG!"

"Oh My God!" "You got ANOTHER one!"

That's what I heard while trying to decide which Lean Cuisines I wanted to buy this week at Stop and Shop.

(I know, I need a lot more than Lean Cuisine)

When I heard this remark , I thought , "I hope this doesn't mean what I think it does"

Sure enough! When I looked up, there was the lady that usually works at the Deli Dept., looking at Abby and me.

Of course I smiled and said "Yes, I ADOPTED (stressed that word) again" , and then for some reason I started giving her the reasons why I adopted again!!

One of which was how I wanted Loren to have a sister.

Her reply?............"And you can't even tell!"

Uh ???? Tell what??

"That they are not real sisters"

OMG!!

All I could say was..."Yes, their real."" They are as real as real gets!"
"Just as real as you and I!"

I am just thankful that Loren was in school and Abby is too young to understand.

What is up with some people?

I would have probably said something like "You think she's adopted? You mean you don't think she looks like me?"
I had a guy say "Is she yours?" My reply: "She ain't someone elses."
Good to see you back in Blogdom, Gail!

Ugh...it takes all kinds doesn't it? I haven't had a comment made in a while, but I did have someone ask..."Was her father Chinese?" I paused for a bit before I answered, "yea...I think so." Fortunately Grace was very young and couldn't understand.

I've missed you, welcome back!

In my head, the F word just slipped out (OOPS)... as I thought, "Oh for.. sake". Sorry about that. But I swear I DID not say it out loud here in the silence of my own home with only Boob's virgin ears to hear. Swear I didn't.

Your response WAS PERFECT by the way!!

We had people ask: "Is your husband Chinese?" and "Do you have any children of your own?" People sure are something!! They just don't think before they speak, or, they they really don't have a clue!!
BTW, Your girls are "REAL" cute!!!

It makes me crazy...the "real" thing, but I guess I can understand why people don't understand. I think sometimes they've just never thought about it all until they see my family. They don't have time to edit their questions (some never would edit anyway). I also think some really just want to know if you can/have adopted bio. siblings from China. People who haven't adopted just don't quite know how to wrap their head around the information but are often curious on how it all works...hence the seemiingly rude and clumsy questions. I NOW know what I would ask an adoption family...when the questions might even be okay or appropriate and also know what I would never ask but I think it has taken me being an adoptive mom to figure that out. I'm sure I asked a few stupid ones about adoption or even parenting in general early on. I do think it is good to have a few comebacks for times when you don't want to deal with people...that or just walking away. I've heard some pretty clever and funny ones, but sometimes my jaw just hangs open and I can't respond quickly enough because my brain is so stunned by the question...but I'm getting better (and am also not getting as many questions as I used to get).

Way to go Gail. Handled like the classy lady you are. I'll never foget being asked by a lady once where did I "get" my baby from. I just simply replied that "they " were on sale at Wal-Mart and I walked away. Again thank goodness Kaileigh was just little and it totally went over her head. Some people eh? (Canadianism)

P.S. We'll need to do a chat soon. Let me know when a good time for you is.

You handled and answered the lady just perfectly and wonderfully! Sometimes I think people just say what pops into their head in regards to adoption.....and some comments make you stop and drop your mouth open!!!

Welcome Back!!!
